How do payouts work on PromptBase?

Last updated: April 19th 2024

Payouts from PromptBase to your connected bank account occur when the following conditions are met:

  • Your account is at least 30 days old.
  • You have reached a minimum available balance of $30.00 USD
  • It is the 1st of the month at 12:00 UST if you are on a monthly payout schedule, or it is Monday at 12:00 UST if you are on a weekly payout schedule.

Optionally, you can initiate an early payout if certain conditions are met to initiate a payout early or below the minimum threshold.

How are funds added to my balance?

Whenever you make a sale on PromptBase, PromptBase takes a 20% application fee, and the remaining 80% is added to your pending balance, which you can view at any time on the payouts tab of your account page. After 72 hours the sale amount in your pending balance will be moved over to your available balance.

For example, if you sell a prompt for $10.00, then $8.00 will be added to your pending balance. Then, after 72 hours, $8.00 will be moved from your pending balance to your available balance.

You can view the amount that's added to your balance in the Net revenue column on the sales tab of your account page.

An hourglass icon will appear next to the net sale amount if the amount is pending to be added to your balance.

Early payouts

You can initiate an early payout to payout your account balance even if it is below the minimum threshold, or it is not the correct day of the payout cycle that you are on.

Creating an early payout will incur a $3.99 USD fee.

If there is more than $10.00 USD in your PromptBase USD balance, we will subtract the early payout fee from your balance, otherwise the fee is taken via card payment.

An early payout can only be initiated if the following conditions are met:

  • There is more than $3.99 USD in your balance.
  • Your account is at least 30 days old.

When an early payout is initiated, it will take 7 days to process.

Why does PromptBase charge an early payout fee?

We charge an early payout fee to cover the average cost that Stripe charges PromptBase for sending a payout. This is a pass-through fee that PromptBase does not profit from. The Stripe charge includes a flat-rate fee, plus a percentage of the payout, plus currency conversion fees. If your payout is made on a regular payout schedule with your balance above the minimum threshold then we waive this fee.

Currency conversion

When you sign up to PromptBase, you'll choose a bank to receive payouts into when creating your linked Stripe account. When a payout is made to your account, we send your earnings in USD to your Stripe account, which performs a currency conversion before creating a payout to your bank account.

For example, if you have $100.00 USD in your PromptBase balance, and your linked bank account is denominated in Euros - we'll send $100.00 to your Stripe account, Stripe will convert $100.00 into Euros using a mid-market rate (e.g. 1 USD = 0.93 EUR), and €93.00 would be deposited into your bank account.

You can view the exchange rate of your payout by hovering over the information icon next to the payout amount on the payouts tab of your account page

Stripe fund settlement time delay

For some countries, when we transfer funds from your PromptBase USD balance to your Stripe account, Stripe might take several days to let the funds to settle and become available for a payout to your bank account.

If this happens, a blue message will appear on your payouts page:

Delayed payout message on PromptBase account page

This is quite normal for payouts with Stripe, so do not be worried. PromptBase will check every 24 hours to see if the funds have become available in your Stripe account, and attempt to initiate the payout to your bank. This can sometimes take anywhere from 3-5 days from the initial transfer to your Stripe account.

Bank transfer times

Once a payout has been initiated by Stripe, it can take 3-4 business days before the money arrives in your bank account. This timeline can vary based on things like where you're located, or whether it's a national holiday.

You can view all payouts, their status, and their estimated arrival date from the payouts tab of your account page, or your Stripe Express dashboard.

Legacy payouts

Prior to September 12th 2023, funds from sales accumulated in your Stripe Balance, and were paid out automatically after a certain period of time regardless of reaching a minimum threshold.

Any funds paid into your Stripe account balance before September 12th 2023, and has been in there for longer than 2 years for USA, and 90 days for everywhere else, will trigger a payout of your total available balance.
