We then see his FRIEND, a young man in his early 20s, walking towards Patrick. He looks concerned.
FRIEND
Patrick! What are you doing here?
PATRICK
Oh, I was looking for something.
Task 3: Establish the Conflict
FRIEND
What were you looking for?
PATRICK
I want to move to Tokyo, but I don't speak Japanese.
FRIEND
(surprised)
Really? That's a big move.
PATRICK
Yeah, I know. I want to learn the language, but I'm too lazy to do it.
FRIEND
Well, why don't you just buy a phrasebook?
Task 4: Develop the Plot
PATRICK
That's a great idea!
Patrick and his friend start to look around the store for the Japanese phrasebook. After a few minutes of searching, they finally find it.
PATRICK
(excited)
Here it is!
FRIEND
Great! Now you can start learning Japanese.
Task 5: Resolve the Conflict
Patrick takes the phrasebook and they walk out of the store. As they walk, Patrick looks at the phrasebook and starts to learn some of the words.
The camera pans out and fades to black.
FADE OUT.
