The Infernal Forge is a colossal volcanic stronghold where molten rivers flow and the air shimmers with heat. The dungeon is a crumbling relic of a bygone era, filled with dangerous machinery, lava flows, and fire-themed enemies.
Original Purpose:
The Infernal Forge was once the heart of a powerful kingdom, a smithy where the legendary weapon Pyrestone Blade was forged. However, the Firelord, a demonic entity, seized control, corrupting the forge and turning it into his domain. Now, the forge churns out weapons for his fiery legions.
Rooms
1. Magma Gate
Description: A wide basalt cavern with a massive metal gate barring entry. Lava flows through channels on the floor, and molten chains hang from above.
Challenge: Players must redirect lava into specific channels to activate the gate mechanism.
Trap: Pulling the wrong lever causes a lava surge, requiring Dexterity saves to avoid severe burns.
2. Foundry of the Damned
Description: A workshop filled with forges, anvils, and half-finished weapons. Demonic smiths work tirelessly to create cursed blades.
Encounter: Players face off against Fire Imps and a Hulking Forgebeast, a creature forged from molten metal.
Puzzle: To deactivate the forge, players must solve a riddle inscribed on a cooling mechanism, involving knowledge of elemental planes.
3. The Lava Rapids
Description: A twisting, open cavern with raging lava rapids below. Stone platforms float precariously on the molten currents, leading to the next area.
Challenge: Players must navigate across the platforms, which shift and sink if weight is uneven. Fire Elementals rise from the lava to attack, adding to the difficulty.
Trap: Hidden geysers erupt, blasting anyone nearby with scalding steam unless spotted beforehand (Perception or Arcana check).
4. Furnace Heart
Description: The central chamber of the forge, dominated by a gigantic, glowing magma heart that powers the entire fortress.
Encounter: Players face a Lava Hydra, a multi-headed beast with fire breath.
Dynamic Element: The magma heart erupts periodically, flooding parts of the room with lava and forcing players to keep moving.
Reward: The heart contains shards of Pyrestone Essence, used to enhance weapons or armor.
5. Throne of the Firelord (Final Room)
Description: A vast, obsidian throne room with rivers of molten lava crisscrossing the floor. The Firelord sits atop a spiked throne, surrounded by swirling flames.
Final Encounter: The Firelord, a massive demon wielding a flaming greatsword, challenges the party.
Strengths: Devastating melee attacks, AoE fire spells, and lair actions such as creating walls of fire or summoning lava beasts.
Weaknesses: Vulnerable to cold and radiant damage.
Dynamic Challenge: Lava rises gradually, forcing players to fight on higher ground.
Traps
Exploding Runes: Engraved on the floor in the Foundry of the Damned. A Perception check reveals faint glowing marks. Arcana checks or dispel magic can neutralize them.
Collapsing Platforms: In the Lava Rapids, platforms collapse after two rounds. A Survival or Insight check can help players predict which ones are unstable.
Blazing Chains: In the Magma Gate, chains animated by fire magic lash out at players tampering with the mechanism. Detectable by heat radiating from the chains.
Enemies
Fire Imps: Small, fast, and mischievous creatures that attack in swarms. Weak to water or ice.
Hulking Forgebeast: A slow but devastating construct immune to fire and resistant to most weapons. Vulnerable to electricity.
Fire Elementals: Agile and capable of moving through lava. They ignite enemies on contact.
Lava Hydra: Multi-headed beast; when a head is destroyed, two more grow unless cold damage is used.
