At this stage, Nikola would benefit from additional support in the areas of self-regulation and executive functioning. During whole-group instruction, he has difficulty remaining seated for sustained periods and frequently speaks while the teacher is giving directions. These behaviors appear to occur most often when the cognitive demand of the lesson shifts or when he becomes highly engaged in his own ideas. As a result, he missed his most recent math quiz after becoming distracted during the transition to the assessment task. Your support at home can help reinforce the same routines and language, creating consistency between school and home environments. ### Recommended At-Home Interventions 1. **Practice “Pause and Respond” Routines** Set aside 5–10 minutes each day for a structured conversation activity. Ask Nikola to wait until another person has finished speaking before responding. You may use a visual cue such as raising a hand or counting silently to three before speaking. This evidence-based strategy strengthens inhibitory control and helps children develop greater awareness of conversational boundaries. 2. **Use Short, Timed Focus Activities** Provide Nikola with brief tasks that require sustained attention, such as completing a puzzle, drawing from instructions, or working on a short math activity for 5–7 minutes. Use a timer and gradually increase the duration over time. After each activity, briefly discuss what helped him stay focused.
