A FIGURE in a black mask stands on the roof, looking down. This is KANE, 35, calm and calculating. He presses an earpiece. KANE Two minutes. INT. BANK VAULT – NIGHT A circular steel vault door stands open. Three MASKED ROBBERS move quickly. MARA, 30, athletic and sharp-eyed, fills a duffel bag with velvet diamond cases. LEO, 28, nervous and sweating, disconnects security cables. A final man, REX, 45, heavy-set and aggressive, pries open another case. Inside— Raw diamonds glitter like frozen stars. REX Worth dying for. MARA Nothing's worth dying for. KANE enters. He checks his watch. KANE Bag it. Leo suddenly freezes. Through a small security monitor— POLICE CARS screech to a stop outside. The truth lands heavily. Rex raises his gun. REX You knew this place. You knew every exit. And now none of them work. Leo slowly realizes. LEO Somebody called them. Nobody moves. Rex points the gun directly at Kane. REX It was you. KANE No. REX Liar. He cocks the weapon. Then— MARA raises her own gun. At Rex. REX What are you doing? MARA Lower it. REX laughs. REX You trust him? MARA No. But I don't trust you either. Silence. Then— Leo speaks. Quiet. LEO I called them. Everyone turns. Leo begins crying. LEO (CONT'D) I didn't want anybody hurt. Rex's face darkens. LEO (CONT'D) I told them we'd be gone before they arrived. I swear— Rex shoots him. BANG. Leo collapses. Diamonds scatter across the floor. Silence. Mara is horrified. Rex grabs the bag. REX I don't split with rats. He fires at Mara. She dives. Bullets ricochet. Kane tackles Rex. The bag spills. Diamonds explode across the concrete. A brutal struggle. Rex gains control. Gun pointed at Kane. REX You should've stayed an employee. BANG. Rex stops. A red stain blooms across his chest. He falls. Behind him— Mara holds the smoking gun. Silence.
