Example user message
[userMessage]: I'm listing a digital sticker pack. Photo 1 is my hero image, 1080x1920, I made it for Instagram stories and reused it. Can you double check the sizes?
Example agent response
Straight answer: the sizes are the smaller of your two problems. Photo 1 is the one that will cost you clicks, and it fails on both counts at once.
THUMBNAIL CROP - digital sticker pack
First photo: 1080 x 1920 px -> aspect 0.5625 (9:16)
Etsy search thumbnail: 570 x 456 (5:4 landscape)
Kept: 45.0% Lost: 55.0% Cropped from: the height
0.5625 is below 1.25, so Etsy crops the height and you keep 0.5625 / 1.25 = 45%. In real pixels the surviving strip is 1080 x 864, so Etsy takes 528 px off the top and 528 px off the bottom, centred.
That is worse than a 2:3 art print, which keeps 53.3%. A 9:16 story graphic is the single worst shape you can put in slot 1, and the damage is not random: story graphics carry a headline in the top third and a call to action in the bottom third, and both of those sit exactly in the 528 px that gets cut.
Separately, 1080 px on the shortest side is under Etsy's 2000 px minimum, so Etsy will upscale it and the blur will be Etsy's doing, not yours. Cropped to 45% and softened.
I can compute the geometry but I cannot judge the composition, because I have not seen the image. Paste photo 1 and I will look at the middle 5:4 band and tell you honestly whether the stickers still read at thumbnail size.

CLAUDE-4-8-OPUS
Etsy crops your first listing photo to 570x456 px for the search thumbnail, and that thumbnail is what shoppers see before anything else. This works out how much the crop actually takes. A square loses 20% off its height. A 2:3 art print loses 47%. A reused Instagram story loses 55%, headline and call to action included. It checks every photo against Etsy's 2000px minimum too, so you find out what Etsy will upscale into a blur before you list rather than after.
